Lux Dei Candles was born when founder and creative director Rose began making the candles for her children’s baptisms, and then began to gift handmade baptismal candles to friends. She and her sister Lucy began to realize that the majority of baptismal candles are mass produced, lacking beauty and charm. The sister team set out to create handcrafted candles to complement and beautifully adorn the baptismal Sacrament.
The first candle editions were so loved that the rest is history. Rose now has five children, with one on the way, so she bequeathed the mission to Lucy, with the assistance of another sister Anna.
Within the first year, Lux Dei Candles has expanded beyond Baptismal candles, offering luminaries for Confirmation, First Communion, Marriage, and personal devotionals.
We have taken a Latin phrase, Lux Dei, which translates to “God's light” for our name. To always remind us that Christ is the flame, and we are moths.
