Christmas Candle
This is a devotional candle for the Christmas Season. It uses several symbols known from Catholic heritage to assist the viewer in contemplation and meditation during this wondrous time. Images and symbols are as follows:
Holly and Ivy: These flowers are long-used symbols signifying fidelity, the Crown of Thorns, and the red of Christ’s blood, shed for the salvation of man.
Glastonbury Thorn (Italian Legend of the Christmas Rose): The Shepherds who visited the Christ Child had a daughter. In their excitement to visit baby Jesus, the girl was left sleeping by the sheep. She awoke, following the shepherds to Bethlehem and the stable. When she reached the stable and saw the little Christ child she hid herself, sad that she had no gift to give to him who she knew to be God. But as her tears fell to the ground, green shoots grew and blossomed into a beautiful white rose, edged in pink. Joyfully she picked these flowers and gave them to Jesus, and then returned with the shepherds to watch the sheep and rejoice in the birth of this blessed child.
The Star: leading the way to the Christ Child.
The innocent child Jesus in the manger.
As with anything made by hand, each candle will have slight variations.
This is a tapered decorated candle made from 100% beeswax (USA) and hand cut and decorated with 100% colored beeswax (Germany). The symbols are cut out and crafted to the candle. The candle measures 9 1/2 in. (24 cm) tall, 3/4 in. (1.9 cm) wide, and 3 in. (7.62 cm) circumference at the base.
